Industrial Water Treatment
More stringent environmental constraints demand cleaner water and the need for more efficient water treatment. De Nora addresses these needs by supplying DSA® Anodes with advanced anode coatings, trought our extensive experience in electrochemical water treatment we provide the highest performance anodes for applications. The recycling of waste is becoming increasingly important as concerns about the environment and the availability of resources become more critical, but many waste streams are not yet suitable for recovery because of cost or practicality. De Nora with electrochemical oxidation can provide an effective and environmentally friendly alternative to other technologies.
Organic Destruction
Electrolytic organic destruction (EOD) systems provide an alternative to ozone, biological, or chemical oxidants for industrial wastewater and process water treatment.cal methods. EOD can also reduce biological oxygen demand (BOD) or chemical oxygen demand (COD) in treatment processes. EOD offers another tool to reduce volumes of expensive hazardous wastes.
Inorganic Destruction (Ammonia/Cianide/Nitrate)
Electrochemical processes can be useful for the treatment of water contaminated with inorganic pollutants such as nitrate or cyanide. Depending on the pH of the solution, different products are formed during the reduction of nitrate. This can be nitrite, ammonia and nitrogen gas.
Oxidation/Reduction Process
The electrochemical generation of oxidants, used for the recovery or treatment of wastewaters from industrial plants, is playing an ever increasing role due to their reliable performance and ease of handling. De Nora R&D has developed anode coatings and efficient cells for a wide range of applications:
Ultra pure water production (pharmaceutical/cosmetic/medical applications)
Rinsing baths (optical parts, printed circuit boards and in the automotive industry)
Potable water supply
Therapy and rehabilitation pools for Hospitals
Water disinfection for the food industry
Advantages:
Electro Kinetic Flotation
Electro kinetic flotation is the process of removing dispersed particles from liquid using gas bubbles. The gas bubbles are obtained through the electrolysis of water, which produces hydrogen and oxygen gas.
De Nora’s anodes and cathodes are arranged at the bottom of a tank filled with the water solution containing the dispersed solids. Current is passed through the electrodes, electrolyzing the water and producing bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen gas. Generation of bubbles through electrolysis has several advantages:
Purity: since the gas bubbles are created in-situ no actual handling or transport of the gases occurs prior to their use, and therefore no additional impurities are introduced into the system.
Process Control: controlling the rate of gas generation is easy, the more current applied the more gas generated, the less current applied the less gas generated.
Maintenance is simplified
Washing machine Electrosynthesis
Washing machines having a separated electrochemical cell can eliminate or significantly reduce the need for detergents. De Nora has developed specialty anode coatings to maximise water electrolysis thereby improving overall process efficiency.
Water Polishing
Hydrocyclones, Induced Gas Flotation units, Sparging Columns and Skim Vessels normally produce effluent water quality that is within regulatory (oil, grease and toxicity) standards. “Produced Water Polishing” is a new concept, applying a secondary treatment process to produced waters prior to final discharge overboard. Offshore operators monitor the effluent quality of their platforms primary treatment systems and intervene before an incident of non-compliance occurs.
Anodes for Alkaline Water Generators
In many parts of the world alkaline water generators for household and institutional use have become popular for a variety of promoted health benefits. These electrolytic cells increase the pH of drinking water for health reasons.
De Nora is a leading supplier of anodes, offering both platinum and mixed metal oxide coated anodes, for key global suppliers of alkaline water generators in Asia. De Nora has the highest standards of quality, anode lifetime and efficiency for this unique application. De Nora can also consult on technical aspects of alkaline cell design to lower manufacturing and material costs while maintaining quality.
