MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY
De Nora provides chlor-alkali and chemical manufacturers worldwide with membrane cell electrolyzers (most of Lurgi and Uhde membrane electrolyzers have been equipped by De Nora), comprehensive process engineering and basic engineering design packages, and experienced follow-up technical support.
De Nora's membrane cell electrolyzers produce membrane grade chlorine gas (Cl2), caustic soda (NaOH) or caustic potash (KOH), and hydrogen gas (H2). The cells are typically operated under a slight positive pressure, allowing customers to use the chlorine gas generated to produce sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) without the purchase and maintenance of expensive gas compressors or fans.
- These improvements provide increased internal circulation and the ultimate in current distribution across the active membrane area
- These changes result in consistently lower cell voltage over the life of the electrolyzer at current densities up to 6 kA/m2, although even higher current density has been demonstrated
- The advantages of the De Nora system include reduced cell room area, reduced piping requirements and more cost effective transformer - rectifier design
- De Nora electrolyzers can be designed to fit a wide variation in existing circuit voltages and amperages
- De Nora System is ideal for regional bleach production or on-site chlorine manufacture. Eliminate risks associated with handling liquid chlorine
- De Nora System provides bipolar advantages – lower kA with higher circuit voltage, for a low cost electrical system and monopole advantages – remove a single electrolyzer with no circuit shutdown using a standard jumper switch
